The Edo State Government has approved full educational scholarships for the three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who died in active service to the nation.
The gesture, approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo, is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted education for the deceased officer’s children.
The governor stated that the scholarships would cover the children’s education from their current levels up to university, reflecting the administration’s commitment to supporting families of fallen heroes.
He described the late Brigadier General Braimah as a patriotic officer whose sacrifice for the country must not be forgotten.
The beneficiaries include Farida Hussain-Braimah, an 18-year-old 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, 16, who is currently in SS3 at Olumawu Senior School, Abuja; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, 12, a JSS2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School, Abuja.
Speaking on the development, Governor Okpebholo said the decision was both a moral responsibility and a demonstration of accountable governance. He noted that the late officer’s death represents a profound sacrifice in service to Nigeria and emphasized the need for government to stand by the families of such heroes.
“Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind and ensure his children have uninterrupted access to education,” the governor said.
He added that the initiative aligns with the education component of his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development, social welfare, and inclusive governance.
According to him, the state remains committed to positioning the children for stable and meaningful futures.
The late Brigadier General Braimah was earlier described by the governor as a symbol of discipline, courage, and patriotism.
He reportedly died during ongoing security operations and was laid to rest with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Edo State Government also called on other state governments and private sector stakeholders to emulate the initiative by providing structured support, particularly in education, to families of military personnel who die in the line of duty.
