EKPOMA – The Department of Business Administration, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has called for a radical transformation in management education and business practice through the adoption of data-driven decision-making, declaring that "numbers are the true architects of business decisions" in today's digital economy.
The charge was delivered by Professor Nosa Godwin Osagie during the department's maiden lecture series themed, "Numbers: The Architect of Business Decisions." The lecture attracted academics, administrators, researchers, students and industry stakeholders who examined the increasing role of quantitative analysis in shaping effective business strategies and national development.
Professor Osagie stressed that management education must evolve to meet the demands of the modern business environment by embedding data literacy across all areas of business training. He argued that business schools should move beyond teaching quantitative methods as isolated courses and instead equip students with the capacity to interpret data, communicate analytical findings and make informed strategic decisions in marketing, finance, human resource management and operations.The professor also advocated stronger collaboration between universities and industry to bridge the gap between academic research and practical business needs. He urged the Department of Business Administration, Ambrose Alli University, to position itself as a leading centre for quantitative business research in the Niger Delta and beyond. He further called on policymakers to invest in digital infrastructure, strengthen data governance frameworks and promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, noting that nations that master the effective use of data will dominate the twenty-first century global economy.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Professor Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Andrew Eromosele, described analytical thinking as an indispensable leadership skill in the age of digital transformation, artificial intelligence and big data.
"The future belongs to organisations that embrace knowledge, innovation and analytical thinking," he said. "In this era of digital transformation, artificial intelligence and big data, the ability to collect, interpret and deploy numerical evidence has become an indispensable leadership competency. Business decisions that are not supported by facts are often driven by emotions, while those founded on reliable data inspire confidence, reduce uncertainty and produce lasting results."He commended the Department of Business Administration for initiating the lecture series, describing it as a timely academic intervention that aligns with the university's commitment to promoting research, innovation and solution-driven scholarship capable of addressing contemporary business and societal challenges.
