EKPOMA — A Lecturer II of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Mr. Asibor Ernest, has beaten about 26,000 applicants to secure the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Niger Delta Scholarship, valued at approximately US$40,000, for further studies.
Ernest, who lectures in the Department of Histopathology/Cytopathology, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, emerged among the successful beneficiaries after what was described as a highly competitive selection process.
The scholarship will enable the academic to pursue further studies and deepen his research in his area of specialisation, in a development that the university says further underscores the growing research profile of AAU.
The achievement has also drawn commendation from the university management, which described it as a significant milestone for the lecturer and the institution.
In a statement issued by the Principal Assistant Registrar and Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Otunba Mike Aladenika, the management said Ernest's success demonstrated the increasing capacity of AAU academics to compete successfully for major scholarship and research opportunities.
Aladenika said: "the Vice chancellor, Professor Mrs Eunice Omonzejie who was elated with the achievement said AAU, Ekpoma is rising and covering more grounds in research.” She also commended NDDC for providing the platform for intellectual and research growth in the Education sector
She said the university would continue to encourage its academic staff to pursue higher qualifications, undertake impactful research and explore competitive funding opportunities locally and internationally.
Ernest's scholarship is expected to strengthen his academic and research capacity while further contributing to the university's research output and visibility in Medical Laboratory Science.
