EKPOMA — Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, describing his passing as a painful loss to the university community, Edo State and Nigeria.
The university, in a statement issued by Otunba Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar and Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Management, staff and students said it received the news of the death of the veteran politician and statesman with “deep shock and a heavy heart.”
Chief Orbih, who until his death headed the Governing Council of the university, was described by the institution as a distinguished statesman, political leader and administrator whose wealth of experience, courage and wisdom contributed significantly to the affairs of the university.
According to the university, Orbih brought to the Governing Council “an unwavering commitment to the advancement of Ambrose Alli University,” with a strong determination to reposition the institution, restore its lost glory and strengthen its capacity to provide quality education.
The statement noted that his tenure as Pro-Chancellor was characterised by a commitment to academic excellence, good governance, institutional stability and sustainable development.
It said Orbih was particularly passionate about restoring the dignity and reputation of the university, adding that he consistently advocated initiatives aimed at improving the institution and enhancing the welfare of its community.
“His contributions to the growth and transformation of Ambrose Alli University will remain indelible in the history of the institution,” the university said.
Beyond his role at AAU, the institution described Orbih as a respected political leader and statesman who devoted several decades to public service.
It said his contributions to the political and socio-economic development of Edo State and the South-South region had earned him recognition across the country.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff and students, condoled with Orbih’s wife, children, siblings and the entire Orbih family.

The university community, she said, stood in solidarity with the family at a difficult moment, while praying to God to grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
The university also prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, urging God to grant him eternal rest.
“Chief Dan Osi Orbih will be deeply missed. His legacy of service, courage and commitment to the advancement of Ambrose Alli University will continue to inspire generations,” the statement said.
