EKPOMA — The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has directed that the university flag be flown at half-mast in honour of the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, who died recently.
The directive, according to a statement by the Principal Assistant Registrar and Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations of the university, Otunba Mike Aladenika, was part of measures to honour the late Pro-Chancellor and reflect the grief of the entire university community over his passing.
Aladenika said the university community was deeply saddened by the death of Chief Orbih, describing the development as a painful and irreparable loss to the institution.
“We are mourning the passing of our Pro-Chancellor. The entire university community is in a sombre mood. We can only pray for the repose of his soul and the fortitude for us all to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
Chief Orbih’s death has continued to generate tributes from within and outside the university community, with stakeholders describing him as a statesman whose contributions to education and institutional development would be remembered.
In a related development, the management of Mudiame University, Irrua, has paid a condolence visit to the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, to commiserate with the institution over the death of Chief Orbih.
The Vice-Chancellor of Mudiame University, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, was represented on the visit by the Registrar, Mr. Harry Eguaojie.
Eguaojie said Mudiame University identified deeply with AAU Ekpoma in its moment of grief, stressing that Chief Orbih’s death was a loss not only to the two institutions but to the wider education sector.
“We share in your grief at this moment. As our institutional mentor, our Pro-Chancellor is also our Pro-Chancellor. Both institutions have lost a statesman and a pathfinder.
“We pray for his family and the entire university community that God will grant us all the fortitude to bear the loss,” he said.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, expressed appreciation to the management of Mudiame University for the condolence visit and for identifying with the university at such a difficult moment.
She described the death of Chief Orbih as a rude shock to the university community, adding that the institution would continue to remember his contributions to its development.
“His death was a rude shock to us all. It is our prayers that God will grant him eternal rest,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The visiting Mudiame University delegation subsequently signed the condolence register opened in honour of the late Pro-Chancellor.
The university community has continued to mourn Chief Dan Osi Orbih, with the half-mast display of the university flag serving as a solemn symbol of the institution’s grief and respect for its departed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
