The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has inducted 485 qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAUE), at its 15th Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony for the 2021/2022 graduating set, held in Ekpoma, Edo State.
Addressing the inductees, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, congratulated them on their academic accomplishments and charged them to uphold the ethics, integrity and professional standards of their chosen career. She acknowledged the challenges they encountered throughout their academic journey but noted that their successful induction had justified the sacrifices and perseverance. Prof. Omonzejie stressed that Nigeria's healthcare system urgently requires their professional expertise, urging them to deploy their knowledge and skills towards strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the nation's health sector.
Earlier, the Dean, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Prof. Marcellinus Okoduwa, described the induction as both an achievement and a responsibility. He observed that Medical Laboratory Science occupies a critical position in healthcare delivery, particularly in accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, disease prevention and public health protection. He therefore urged the new professionals to appreciate the responsibilities that come with their qualification.
In their separate lectures, the guest speakers, Prof. Mrs. Everista Osimen and Prof. Youtchou Tatfeng, emphasised the need for continuous professional development and knowledge enhancement to meet the evolving demands of the profession. They also stressed the importance of collaboration with other healthcare professionals, noting that effective teamwork remains essential to quality healthcare delivery.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by the Registrar of the MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ibe Ofili, who was represented by Lady Christiana Igwe. In her remarks, she urged the inductees to appreciate the sacrifices of their parents and make them proud through exemplary professional conduct. She particularly reminded them that laboratory integrity is sacrosanct, stressing that every laboratory result matters and has implications for patient care and treatment outcomes.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding graduating students across various categories in recognition of their exceptional academic performances, including the overall best graduating student. Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Ayeh Jennifer Ebere, who emerged as the Faculty's overall best graduating student and received several awards, expressed gratitude to the University Management, faculty members, parents and colleagues for their support and encouragement throughout their academic journey.
